How does KeepOfEchoes protect my privacy?
All AI processing happens directly on your device. Your recordings and transcripts never leave your phone unless you choose to share them through iCloud Family Sharing. We never see, access, or store your stories.
What is Ember?
Ember is your AI conversation companion within KeepOfEchoes. Ember asks a question, listens, picks up a detail from what you said and asks one gentle follow-up at a time. Ember runs on your device with Apple Intelligence. An optional Deeper AI setting uses Apple's Private Cloud Compute; it is off unless you switch it on.
What are the ways to tell a story?
Talk with Ember is a guided conversation around one of a thousand questions. Just Record lets you tap and tell. Record Together is for a conversation with someone you love. Tell about a photo lets Ember ask about an old photo you pick.
Can I use KeepOfEchoes without internet?
Yes! Core features including recording, transcription, and playback work completely offline. You only need internet to sync with iCloud or access Family Sharing features.
How does Family Sharing work?
Open a story and tap the share button to send an invitation through iCloud. Your family members open the invitation and can listen to the story in KeepOfEchoes on their own iPhone or iPad. You can see who joined and stop sharing at any time.
How do I delete my recordings?
You can delete any individual story from within the app by swiping left on it or through the story detail view. To delete all data, simply remove the app from your device. If using iCloud sync, manage your data through Apple's iCloud settings.
What devices are supported?
KeepOfEchoes is available for iPhone and iPad running iOS 17 or later. Apple Silicon Macs can run the iPad version.
Is my data backed up?
If you enable iCloud sync, your stories are automatically backed up to your iCloud account. This backup is encrypted and only accessible by you. Without iCloud, data is stored only on your device.
Troubleshooting
Recording quality issues
Ensure you're in a quiet environment and speaking clearly toward your device. The built-in microphone works best at arm's length.
Transcription not working
On-device transcription requires sufficient device storage. Check that you have at least 1GB of free space available.
iCloud sync not updating
Verify iCloud sync is enabled in both the app settings and iOS Settings. Ensure you're connected to Wi-Fi or have iCloud sync over cellular enabled.
App crashing or freezing
Try force-closing and reopening the app. If issues persist, ensure you're running the latest version from the App Store.
