Getting Started

    Download the app

    Get KeepOfEchoes from the App Store on your iPhone or iPad.

    Choose your mode

    Select Spontaneous for quick captures, Intimate for deeper moments, or Solo Reflection for guided conversation with Ember.

    Tap the record button and share your story. Ember will help with thoughtful prompts when you need them.

    Your story is automatically transcribed. Keep it private or share with family through iCloud.

How does KeepOfEchoes protect my privacy?

All AI processing happens directly on your device. Your recordings and transcripts never leave your phone unless you choose to share them through iCloud Family Sharing. We never see, access, or store your stories.

What is Ember?

Ember is your AI conversation companion within KeepOfEchoes. Ember asks thoughtful questions to help draw out your stories, offers gentle follow-ups, and helps guide meaningful conversations. Ember runs entirely on your device.

What are the three capture modes?

Spontaneous mode is for quick captures during family gatherings with minimal friction. Intimate mode offers gentle facilitation for deeper conversations. Solo Reflection mode pairs you with Ember for guided personal storytelling.

Can I use KeepOfEchoes without internet?

Yes! Core features including recording, transcription, and playback work completely offline. You only need internet to sync with iCloud or access Family Sharing features.

How does Family Sharing work?

Family Sharing uses iCloud to let family members contribute to and access a shared story collection. You control who can access the shared collection, and each member can also maintain their own private stories.

How do I delete my recordings?

You can delete any individual story from within the app by swiping left on it or through the story detail view. To delete all data, simply remove the app from your device. If using iCloud sync, manage your data through Apple's iCloud settings.

What devices are supported?

KeepOfEchoes is available for iPhone and iPad running iOS 17 or later. Apple Silicon Macs can run the iPad version.

Is my data backed up?

If you enable iCloud sync, your stories are automatically backed up to your iCloud account. This backup is encrypted and only accessible by you. Without iCloud, data is stored only on your device.

Troubleshooting

Recording quality issues

Ensure you're in a quiet environment and speaking clearly toward your device. The built-in microphone works best at arm's length.

Transcription not working

On-device transcription requires sufficient device storage. Check that you have at least 1GB of free space available.

iCloud sync not updating

Verify iCloud sync is enabled in both the app settings and iOS Settings. Ensure you're connected to Wi-Fi or have iCloud sync over cellular enabled.

App crashing or freezing

Try force-closing and reopening the app. If issues persist, ensure you're running the latest version from the App Store.
