At KeepOfEchoes, privacy isn't an afterthought, it's the foundation of everything we build. Your family stories are intimate and personal. We've designed our app to ensure they stay that way.

Our Privacy Promise

Your voice recordings and transcripts are processed entirely on your device. We never see, access, or store your stories on external servers.

Information We Process Locally

The following data is processed and stored only on your device:

  • Voice Recordings: Audio files captured during story sessions
  • Transcripts: Text generated from your recordings using on-device AI
  • Metadata: Date, time, and tags you assign to stories
  • User Preferences: App settings and customizations

On-Device AI Processing

KeepOfEchoes uses Apple's on-device machine learning frameworks to:

  • Transcribe voice recordings to text
  • Generate conversation prompts through Ember, our AI interviewer
  • Power search functionality within your stories

All AI processing happens locally on your iPhone or iPad. Your recordings are never sent to cloud AI services.

iCloud Sync (Optional)

If you enable iCloud sync or Family Sharing:

  • Your data is synced using Apple's iCloud infrastructure
  • Data is encrypted in transit and at rest using Apple's security standards
  • We do not have access to your iCloud data
  • You control who can access shared family collections

You can disable iCloud sync at any time in the app settings or through iOS Settings.

What We Don't Do

  • We never sell your personal data to third parties
  • We never share your recordings or transcripts with advertisers
  • We never use your stories to train AI models
  • We never access your content stored on your device or iCloud

Analytics

We may collect anonymous, aggregated analytics to improve the app experience. This data does not include any personal information, recordings, or transcript content. You can opt out of analytics in the app settings.

Data Deletion

You have full control over your data:

  • Delete individual stories at any time from within the app
  • Delete all data by removing the app from your device
  • If using iCloud, manage your data through Apple's iCloud settings

Children's Privacy

KeepOfEchoes is designed for family use, including recording stories with and about children. Because all data is stored locally or in your family's iCloud, parental controls and oversight are handled through Apple's Family Sharing and Screen Time features.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes through the app or by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
